jazzfish: A small grey Totoro, turning around. (Totoro)
A new Paranoid Style album, For Executive Meeting, dropped a few months ago. (The Paranoid Style's previous album, A Goddamn Impossible Way Of Life, aka "More Songs About Alan Greenspan, They Might Be Giants, and The Who in Cincinnati," was my favourite new music in quite awhile, which is not really saying all that much.) FEM is ... it's musically more varied and probably 'better' than Way Of Life, and I'm liking it quite a bit, but it hasn't grabbed me like Way of Life did. This review gets at it pretty well, I think. It's a good read despite dropping into what Amanda Marcotte used to refer to as Insufferable Music Snob-ness.

Compare and contrast, if you will, the first track off the new album, Barney Bubbles (CW: suicide reference; it's about a graphic designer who did album covers in the seventies), with the title track off the previous album (about a stampede at a Who concert in 1979). Most of Way Of Life sounds a lot like that, while FEM just ... has a lot more polish and variation in its sound, maybe. I dunno.

Today I have turned three boxes of Stuff into two. One of those is now pretending to be a hanging-file cabinet and holds Misc Paperwork. Which means I am well and truly down to a single Last Lousy Box. That one's full of stuff that would have a home if I had more flat places to put things, but in this apartment that's not gonna happen, so in the box it remains. I'm okay with this.

Still need to finish hanging art; it's a slow process and one that requires decisions to be made. Mostly I've got two big empty walls (one over the couch, one in the bedroom) that I'm not sure what to do with, and a bunch of small-to-medium-sized things I'd like on the walls.

Mr Tuppert, who may actually be Lord Tuppert, is settling in. Most recently, he is Highly Opposed to any messing with his feet, which is gonna make toe-trimming difficult. I'm trying the "give him a treat every time I touch his feet" method of desensitizing / encouraging. Early days yet.

Yeah. That sounds about right.
