The last few weeks I've been more likely than not to wake up around four AM, rest for a bit, and go back to sleep. This is gonna be a problem when I want to start getting up for yoga again but in the meantime it's pretty restful. (See , e.g., Your Ancestors Didn't Sleep Like You.) It's been nice to feel like I'm getting enough sleep, and good enough sleep: makes me much less irritable and much less convinced that Everything Is Terrible.

One interesting side effect is that I tend to dream during the second sleep, and sometimes remember my dreams. I used to dream vividly, and lucid-dream about half the time. I stopped in 2002 when everything actually was terrible, because my dreams were likewise terrible and lucid-dreaming wasn't helping matters.
