[livejournal.com profile] dasphios's life is way more surreal than mine can ever hope to be:

"My name-" Then it hit me. This was a cop. A policeman. A guy in the same field as the ones who gunned down Tom, who arrested John, who, if a draft is called, I'm likely to be trading shots with.
"My name is James Connolly."
"Okay," he says, writing this down [This is when surreality rears its Dali-esque head] "And what did you come here for, Mr. Connolly?"

It rained this afternoon, but only in a halfhearted "there's water coming from the sky, what more do you want?" sort of way. Until around five, when E says "Tucker, come look at the rain!" and I hear a rumble of thunder. I go look out the back door, and it's raining hard enough that you can't really see the houses up over the hill. The wind causes waves in the sheets of rain falling out over the field. Thunder and lightning, of course. Jagged white lines flashing across the soft grey sky.
One goldfinch sitting on the thistle-seed feeder under the deck, acting like he very much wanted to be somewhere else but wasn't quite willing to go out in the rain. He'd hop down the chain and look out, and then scurry back up when the wind changed a bit. I think wet birds, like wet cats, are just automatically irritated at everything.
The power flickered once or twice, but nothing catastrophic. (Unlike last night, where the router decided it had better things to do than hand out IP addresses to the downstairs machines, and was only convinced otherwise -- after an hour of hair-tearing-- by randomly swapping the cables in their ports in back of it.) The storm blew over after 45 minutes or so, but what a 45 minutes! It was all I could do to not go running about in the field outside, with the wind and rain and wet grass.

Here's hoping Z beat the storm getting out, since I think it was moving westward. (Here's hoping it passes through Iowa, too, since there's people there that'll be happy to see it.)

Off to see Blue Man Group tomorrow with E, J., and Maureen, meeting up with Lisa&Vond up there. Should be fun.
