narnia and the north!
May. 9th, 2005 01:49 pmTrailer for The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I offer this trailer my highest praise: it makes me want to reread the books. A bit heavy on the special effects, and I swear I saw a couple of orcish refugees from LOTR in there. (Hiding out with Galadriel's evil sister, Beruthiel Jadis, no doubt.) Cair Paravel is nigh-perfect; other than that . . . it feels a bit off, and I can't quite say why. Oh well. Sucker that I am, I'll probably be there to see it in December. [via

Speaking of which, I find the recent [eight years ago? ten?] renumbering of the series to be a travesty and an abomination. Andrew Rilstone lays out a case for both orderings (saying, essentially, that neither is any more valid than the other: a thoroughly postmodern interpretation, and one I would agree with were I not a Strict Publicationist in nearly all things). I find the 'chronologist' argument that 'it makes sense to read things in the proper order' to be a load of hogwash; anyone able to read the books at all will not be thrown by something as simple as stories being told 'out of order.' And the gains of the publication ordering (especially Andrew's point #3) are not insignificant. *harrumph, wheeze, wave cane in air*
I thought about going out to Roanoke today, for no reason other than it's a really nice day for a drive. Then I realised that I was thinking this mostly to get out of having to follow through on the cleaning I suggested yesterday. Bad Tucker. No donut. So I'm slowly picking things up instead of wasting gas. Go me.
