The days in between the solstice and Xmas feel relegated to limbo this year. . . like there's just nothing interesting about them at all. Then again, it doesn't feel much like Xmas this year either. (Being at Terror Alert ELMO doesn't help matters.)

Survived the drive up here despite unpleasant scraping/rattling noises from Glyndwr. I'll be here 'til Satyrday: my father hasn't yet seen RotK, so on Friday my parents and I will sit through the extended version of Towers and then they'll take me to see RotK for the third time in two weeks. Plus this way I can maybe manage to catch up with Steph.

Had a pleasant day with K despite rain, sinus problems, and an occasional cough. First, the Botanical Garden. (I didn't even realise there was a National Botanical Garden.) Cacti are really, really cool plants. Ditto orchids (but you knew that) and, surprisingly, ferns. I like ferns both because they do the neat rolling-up trick and because they're nature's fractals. Then after lunch we wandered through the Mammal exhibit in Natural History. Excellent taxidermy, and good exhibits overall. A photo of a deer the size of a mouse, and several good stuffed monkeys. Also cats and rodents. After that we swept through the East Wing of the Nat'l Gallery, and I determined that the only thing we missed earlier in the year was a room of mobiles. Which was way cool, but not heartbreaking. (Still no Magrittes. Still not king.)

A pleasant surprise: saw Sarah Schwarm at the candlelight service this evening. Got to talk to her for, oh, ten whole seconds, which is more than I've seen her for in about three years. Service itself was okay; I remain unenthused about the new sanctuary. But, you know, it's not really my church anymore. (I had some thoughts about 'home' bubbling around for a bit, but they didn't really come to much, other than "whatever home is, I've not had one for a few years now.")

Happy Christmas to you all.

Yeah. That sounds about right.
