[livejournal.com profile] shadowsong is doing a research paper (well, several research papers) on LJ and the nature of online communities, and would really appreciate it if y'all would fill out her survey (three surveys, actually) and help her gradumatate.

Our Heritage Is Finished: "'If there were five American soldiers at the door, everything would have been fine,' Amin said about the museum. 'They're supposed to be here to protect us. They should be protecting us.'" Words fail me. (May require dippy registration survey.)

Yesterday was good. Walked downtown with E, poked in Fun&Games (a lot of their boardgames are on sale for $10-20; check it out!) and picked up Reiner Knizia's Medici, dropped off some books for credit at Books Below and picked up a couple interesting-looking ones, plus a copy of Gordon Korman's Son of Interflux. (Korman is about two steps shy of being a brilliant young-adult writer. Who Is Bugs Potter? is classic.) Then went in Blue Ridge Outdoors and bought new sandals, on the grounds that it's been either 4.5 or 5.5 years since I got the ones I currently have and they're falling apart. I didn't get Tevas this time, either. Very odd. They've got a locking strap instead of velcro, and a single strap that wraps through the sole several times. Quite cool. My Teva-tan will change for the first time in about ten years, which is creepy.

Then came home and people (K, Z, J, Crystal, Maureen) came over for grilling and hanging out. And it was all good. Occasionally I forget that no, in fact, not all my friends are blithering idiots.

Today, work and Cymbeline and Bernard Malamud. Yay fun.
