Inattentional Blindness: "In the third version, 50 percent didn't notice the gorilla." [from [livejournal.com profile] skreidle]

How does Dyson make water go uphill?: "A set of four glass ramps positioned in a square clearly show water travelling up each of them before it pours off the top, only to start again at the bottom of the next ramp." About the only Item of Note from Tuesday was Lost in La Mancha at the Lyric. It's a documentary about Terry Gilliam's attempt to film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, in which just about everything that could go wrong does. It's almost physically painful to watch the crew go from slightly fearful excitement to utter despair, as the production falls apart through no fault of their own. Gilliam is quite obviously overstressed through the whole thing, but he never completely collapses... watching the screen tests for the giants, he's having the time of his life. He's apparently trying to resurrect the film, with a larger budget. Good luck to him.

Spiel Wednesday. A bit abbreviated, due to summer hours. Won my first game of Puerto Rico. I'm still not wholly sure I understand the game, but I like it anyway. Didn't get to play War and Sheep... maybe next week. Read Searching For Dragons, book two of the Enchanted Forest Chronicles. Not as good as Talking... but still worth reading. Today I attempt to make some sort of headway on the boxes that remain scattered about my room.
