Got into Shakespeare final at 3:20. Totally rocked it. Full credit on the "did you read the plays" questions (unless I did something very stupid, always a possible), one quite good essay, and one okay essay. Left at 4:50. Heard a loud thunderclap at about 4:30, implying that the sky did in fact carry through on its threat to open up on me.

When you're faced with lots of rain, you've really got only two choices. You can huddle under a coat or a notebook or whatever over your head and grumble a lot and generally try to avoid getting wet. Or you can accept that you're just going to get wet and have fun with it.

I took my shoes off once I looked out the window down the staircase and saw exactly how much rain there was. I imagine that anyone who saw me splashing through puddles, or staring up at the clouds with my arms out, thought I was completely bugfuck.

Sold back The Complete Stories of Flannery O'Connor for two bucks. I am somewhat amazed that they will give me money to not have this book in my house.

Outside the University bookstore there's a place on the sidewalk that wasn't draining properly; the water was about ankle-deep. I went splashing a bit. As I was getting out on the other side I noticed two sorority chickies looking horrified at the lake's existence. Some people have no perspective.

Walked to the bus stop and, under the shelter, pulled out my schedule. Turns out that Main Street only runs every hour on the weekend... and it leaves going north at fifteen of the hour. (It's now roughly five after five.) Hm. Maybe I can ride Tom's Creek around to Ross's and get someone there to give me a lift the rest of the way home. (I'd walk, but I'd rather not soak my Riverside Complete Works of William Q. Shakespeare any more than it already is. Plus then I'd have to put my shoes on; asphalt is fairly solid stuff.) That one comes on 15/45 here, or 00/30 at Burruss. Then I think, I've got money, I can call E and talk her into picking me up. So I wander over to Squires (where there's change machines for the videogames) and get change for a buck. Then I head into the main lobby area looking for a payphone. I happen to glance into the food court and see a girl sitting with her back to me, light brown hair and tanktop and small red bag on the table... nah, couldn't be. Walk in to see, just in case. It is K!

So we talk for a bit, and then go squelching across the Drillfield. The rain's mostly stopped but there's still lots of mud and puddles. And people running and sliding in the mud because they can, and a football game that seems to have turned into playing in the mud. Jumping in puddles and generally laughing. Rode the bus to her place barefoot (damn the Man!), then got a ride home. ANd life was good.

Today update probably coming tomorrow. Sleep good, too.
