And then...
Jul. 11th, 2002 10:33 pmAnd then I got inspired enough to write up an Origins report.
(Actually, I got bored enough with Evolution (so-so Dreamcast RPG) to write up
an Origins report, but who's counting?)
So, I got picked up just after chemistry on Wednesday morning, and we (the seven of us) piled into two cars and made the trip to Columbus. Said trip was mostly uninteresting except that Ross's engine couldn't handle hills and air conditioning simultaneously, or J.'s AC adapter thing without beeping a lot. Got there, got the Lab set up, got ready to run stuff.
Thursday was the first two Fluxx prelims and the acquisition of Nobilis, the Prettiest RPG Ever. Really. The pictures on Hogshead's website don't do it justice. But that's another rant. (Note that Hogshead is selling t-shirts and stuff with quotes from the sidebars of the book. Go read the quotes. Go ahead, I can wait.)
Anyway. I also played some Werewolf (badly), and talked to various and sundry cool people, to include the Usual Suspects from California, Pittsburg, and Maryland, the Boston warren,
mnemex (who I'd actually met at JohnCon 2000), and various other people who I can't remember where they live.
Friday was, in order, the third Fluxx prelim, victory in the Pikemen tournament, two wins in the Zendo tournament, two losses (and elimination) in the Zendo tournament (way to go
ubiquity!), wiping out in the Gnostica tournament so I could go back to being Top Rabbit, and wiping out in the Martian Chess tournament for no good reason. At some point on Friday I also managed to snag the first copy of the second edition of Unknown Armies to come out of the box.
Satyrday... ah yes. Satyrday I ran a Fluxx prelim, and then went and played a LARP in a swimming pool. Yes. It's called Prawn, and was a lot of fun. Very light, about two hours long, and... yeah. Way cool. Can't really talk about the cool stuff without spoilers, though, and I'm contemplating running it down
here at some point.
After Prawn, I had a couple hours to recuperate, and then there was the Icehouse tournament, at which I did poorly. I blame a lack of sleep and a general inability to not crash while playing pieces. Then, after all the fun of wiping out in the IIT, I got to run the last Fluxx prelim. Gah. At least
Adam and I didn't have to have a cage match for use of the tables (the last Chrononauts prelim was scheduled for the same time). After that I went home and crashed.
Sunday there was the Fluxx World Championship (not yet televised on ESPN2), and then a lot of hanging around and packing up stuff. Then a post-mort meeting, at which it was decided that next year unattended children shall be sold as slaves, and then we came home, making the trip in about six hours. Go us. And I think that by now I'm actually recovered enough that I don't need a nap in the afternoons.
For those interested, combining Liam's and Erskin/Marcella's stories of all the crap that went down in the latter half of 2000 basically yields "People are a problem." I say this knowing that had I been in either situation things would have likely turned out about as well.
