jazzfish: A cartoon guy with his hands in the air saying "Woot." (Woot.)
Your suggestions were all appreciated, and based on those choices it looks like Anathem will be the next thing I read out of that particular set. However, [livejournal.com profile] uilos reminded me that I've a Susan Palwick book sitting unread on the shelf. So I was going to fix that particular problem.

But then I got home and there was a mysterious book-shaped package on my doorstep. "What the heck is that?" I asked (out loud, I think). "I haven't ordered anything."

Turns out sometimes things show up even when you don't order them.

Desired reading material: acquired.
jazzfish: an open bottle of ether, and George conked out (Ether George)
Words: 619
Total words: 920
Neat things: The action takes place "outside the town of Malbork." I crack me up.

Holy crap I finished something. Finished a first draft of something, anyway. Will go back over it in the next couple days to polish and fix up, and then probably post it on Wednesday or Thursday. Eep.

I am bloody well exhausted. Six hundred words, over the course of most of a day, and it's wiped me out. I dunno if it's that it's 600 words, or that it's gone towards actually finishing the thing, or what. That last fifty, man. (Consisting of the next-last paragraph and a rewrite of the first couple of sentences.) Half an hour, and it just knocked me /out/.

Now to zone out and continue decompressing for a bit. And then to bed.
jazzfish: artist painting a bird, looking at an egg for reference (Clairvoyance)
Words: 301
Total words: 301
Neat things: Hey, this is set in the same world as that thing I'm not yet good enough to write! Great.

As noted by [livejournal.com profile] coffeeem and others, [livejournal.com profile] janni is having a sagafic contest to celebrate the impending release of her latest book. Something about the prompt "Three shells in return for my poem" spoke to me, and this is what started coming out.

I know the structure of the thing, and I've even got the ending already written. This is more like filling in what happens: almost more like creative revising than writing.

Of course, I know the structure of "Words," the related story that I'm not yet good enough to write, too. With any luck "Three Shells" will be more "practice for the kind of writing 'Words' wants' and less "another thing I'm not good enough to write."

Goal: complete draft by the end of the weekend, and finished and posted by, mm, by the CVS meeting on the 15th.
