Used when I'm doing something meme-ush. Stolen from jadelennox on LJ back in the day. The rat-creature is from Jeff Smith's comic epic Bone. It's something of a running gag in the comic: "Those rat-creatures would have to be pretty stupid to follow me onto this frail little branch! ... STUPID, STUPID RAT-CREATURES!!".


Used when someone is being dense. I've not gotten in an argument on DW in ages, so this is mostly if I'm posting about something that particularly annoys me (and isn't computer-related; I've another pic for that). Which also doesn't happen all that often anymore. I forget the provenance of this one.


Play Different. Used mostly for boardgame-related program activities. The pyramids are part of a game system that I was heavily into from about 1998 until I left Blacksburg in 2006. Image by Elliott "Eeyore" Evans, in homage to the multicoloured translucent iMac "Think Different" ads from the turn of the millennium.

The game system is intriguing! What did you enjoy about it?

I think my icons are mostly too literal to evoke much exegesis.

Originally, the mystique. You could order papercraft pyramids, but if you wanted something with any heft or durability you had to make your own. And it was beloved by a number of people who at the time I approached with something a few notches shy of hero-worship. Later, when they first made the injection-molded plastic pyramids, the sheer prettiness. And also some of the really neat games that came out of it, that directly used the physicality of the pieces. Especially the original Icehouse (literally real-time strategy) and the induction-puzzle Zendo.

oo what were your fav games to play w the pyramids?

Icehouse, real-time strategy, because there's really nothing else quite like it. Diplomacy and tactics and manual dexterity.

Zendo, induction-logic in game form.

Pikemen, multiplayer abstract strategy with lines of force.

Branches and Twigs and Thorns (fka Martian Go), for the really neat positional and territory aspects.
