Summer lasted all the way through September this year, all bright skies and shorts weather. The sudden reappearance of normal Vancouver on Saturday hit me like the proverbial ton of bricks. Waking up was tough this morning but I think I'm readjusting. It helps that my light-clock went off turned on like it was supposed to, as opposed to three days out of five last week. (Scheduled power outage one night reset its clock; when I reset it I failed to notice I'd set it twelve hours off; and then I just forgot to turn it on once.)

I fight my undiagnosed SAD with vitamin D pills and a blue sunlamp that hangs over my monitor. It works, I think. I mean, I'm still here, I haven't completely withdrawn into hibernation or anything. Definitely gonna need a sun-vacation sometime this winter, though.

This worries me a lot about a potential move out that way. I always said I'd rather it be freezing out and sunny than just grey all winter long. Hrm.

I exaggerate, mostly because it's the first day or three. It's generally grey every day from November through March and many days in October and April, but it's rarely grey *all* day. Definitely something to take into consideration, though.

Back when moving was still just an idea we spent a week's vacation in Vancouver in February, on the theory that that was the worst of it.

I'm quite sympathetic. I have a sun lamp that I turn on as soon as my alarm goes off. I also have a glorious southern-exposure Great Room in which I lurk during the winter to soak up the sun. And assuredly, I'm ramping back up on my Vitamin D intake as the sun disappears.

The nice thing about this alarm is that the light comes on gradually for half an hour leading up to the noisy alarm. Which means I usually wake up slowly and in plenty of time to not be startled by the RREEP RREEP RREEP.

Ha, I think I'm good for right now. :) One of the reasons I left was a distaste for being broiled. Ask me again in three months, though.
