Still recovering from a lingering malingering cough, still catching up on email (I'm up to June!), still enjoying Vancouver, still waiting for my favorite character to come back in Avatar. (I think the next episode is all about him, so yay.) Blergh.

Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world.

That got me twitchy as well, because, just, NO. I mostly liked the rest of it enough to glaze over that part on second reading. (The advice to sit down and talk to someone while she's reading also rubs me the wrong way. It seems like an excellent way to make a very poor impression.)

I assume there might be some selection involved there, in that people sitting in coffee shops by themselves and reading might be more open to interruption than folks, say, anywhere else, but yes, my major thought at that was "A woman who is reading is already occupied. She is not your opportunity, nor is her self-sufficiency something that needs to be corrected."

So yeah, bad impression.

Re: interruption of reading. Agreed. It would really annoy me. Not even my actual girlfriend of six years gets to do that with impunity.

*grin* I think that makes the world a much richer place. Also, one that's slightly more likely to leave you in peace to read.
