hey, it's been awhile.

Slow motion hummingbirds: amazing. "I’d never realized how much these little guys would look like swimmers treading water." --Anne Laurie, Balloon Juice
D) None Of The Above: "Permission not granted." I really don't understand people sometimes.

The Dear Leader seeks your attention. I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing loud enough to disturb coworkers.
Last weekend (that's the 6th)
uilos's parents came up from Richmond and we all went to see the Terracotta Warriors exhibit at the Nat'l Geographic. The exhibit itself filled me with some amount of awe at the sheer scale of the thing, both in space (some eight thousand life-size clay figures, all different) and in time (so many of them have survived intact, or been pieced back together, for well over two thousand years). The visit was less stressful than it could have been, and less stressful than their last visit. I managed to successfully fake not being sick well enough to not get sympathy and attention, which was a very good thing.
Being sick makes for a lousy time of it in general. Things started getting better last Thursday, when I finished the antibiotic and also drove up to Philly to hang out with
jude and catch a Girlyman (now with added drummer!) show. All of these things were of course wholly awesome, in that way that only a shared good experience can be.
The next morning I drove home through the rain and spent most of the day zoned out. Satyrday was yet another Girlyman show, this time in Vienna at Jammin' Java, this one somehow managing to be even /more/ awesome. "Saint Peter's Bones" with a full drum kit was nearly a transcendental experience, and JJ is great fun to watch (in addition to being a fine drummer). Not to mention the great banter and the occasionally disturbing new songs ("I think when we did this song before, we didn't quite strip it of all sex appeal"). Sunday there was Frog and Toad, live on stage (an exceedingly cute and entertaining children's musical), followed by
rislyn's pi party, with games and people and circular food of various types.
The weekend was almost good enough to make up for the return of DST on a dark and wet morning. Bleh.
