Home from the beach, where the water did eventually warm up enough to be worth getting into. I think I need to spend some time there when I don't feel an urgency to Play Games Now.

I'd thought today was going to be a slow day of reading and lounging around with uilos, possibly going to see The Brothers Bloom (a new film by the writer/director of Brick) and having dinner at Da Marco in Silver Spring.

Unfortunately she just got kidnapped for a bridal shower she thought was going to be next weekend. So, um. At least I've got my books. (Oryx and Crake, Le Guin's Annals of the Western Shore, Jirel of Joiry, JMF's Scholars of Night, and something called Genesis by Bernard Beckett that I picked up yesterday on a whim and with a 40% off coupon. And eventually the Susanna Clarke collection, though that was for discussion with someone who may or not still be interested in talking to me so there's no rush on that front.)

I suppose there might be some unpacking or writing in between.

This is quite possibly a silly question, but did you go to a beach somewhere roughly close to the D.C. area (I guess I would define close as within a half day's driving distance)? If so, where did you go, was it nice and would you recommend it for future vacationers? I'm trying to get a feel for places to go around here. Not so much like living in Hawaii where you could just pick a direction and run into a (probably) picturesque beach. :)

Offer is appreciated. Ended up spending the day plowing through books and generally being an introvert.

However, I may well take you up on that sometime, um, after June, since June is Entirely Too Full.

We went to Kitty Hawk in the Outer Banks in NC, about five hours away. (95 south to Richmond, then 64 E to Nawfuk, then 168/158 south onto the islands.)

It's definitionally within half a day's driving distance since I've been there and back with my father in a single day before. :) The only way I've ever stayed there was by renting a house; it works well for that.

Chincoteague / Assageague islands are about an hour, hour and a half closer, and there's a park for camping on the beach if you're into that.

*nods* I completely understand introverting out (see most recent Facebook update). Early July is busy for me, but there's no hurry.
