jazzfish: an open bottle of ether, and George conked out (Ether George)

Yelling Class: among other things, the best explanation I've seen as to why "color-blind" is inherently racist. (I think I picked this up from a commenter at Scalzi's place when RaceFail reared its head over there.)

Hellhole: on the immensely and intensely negative effects of solitary confinement. I was very nearly in tears after reading this, but then it's a somewhat triggery subject for me. (via [livejournal.com profile] jadelennox)

Living with Leopards, and a followup, in which the Fabulous Lorraine discusses her experiences with Bengal cats. Featuring pictures of gorgeous felines. (From Mr Neil.)

I've gone ahead and ordered the next two Steerswoman books, since I'm already halfway through the second one. (Treating the omnibus as two separate books.) In an interview some years ago Kirstein said that there would be seven total, and then a prequel. This makes me just a little nervous: the fourteen-year gap between books 2 and 3 isn't too likely to be replicated, but there's been then nothing since book four's appearance in 2004, (despite book five having been supposed to come out in 2005, then 2006, then 2007). I may have just signed myself up for a Fantasy Series Wait.

Yeah, I dunno. Work's gotten busy again. On the other hand, I'm not doing anything Tuesday night, so maybe I'll get the second half of the writeup done then.

The discussion of living with an F1 reminds me of when I've made unwilling ferals into house cats (usually because they were partnered with willing ferals who wants to come in now, please and thank you). The cat who lives in the house but is not your pet and doesn't want to be touched and isn't quite domesticated is similar to how my ferals have been during their initial adjustment period. The cat who didn't come out for months sound very familiar (Orpheus got that name because he hid in the basement and I kept hoping he'd come up from the underground one day. That and he tended to yodel).
