jazzfish: five different colors of Icehouse pyramids (iCehouse)

Spent yesterday gaming; had hoped to get five players for Struggle of Empires [a wargamish area-influence game with a neat 'alliance' mechanic where you can only directly attack about half the players at a time]. Sadly, couldn't get in touch with Michael, so we played Löwenherz and Doom, and had grilled burgers & steaks. Good stuff.

Then after dinner I broke out Princes of Florence for the first time. (It came in the mail from a game-trade yesterday afternoon.) Reading through the rules it had sounded a little confusing; mostly, the scoring of points is a bit arcane, and some of the neater mechanisms (the 'best work,' and the recruiters) weren't as well explained as they could have been. Regardless, we forged ahead.

Halfway through the first game, I experienced satori. I had found the Platonic essence of 'game.'

I doubt I'll be playing much else for awhile.

So how is it that we're just finding out about this game now? Nobody can have played this and not thought it was incredible, so why isn't this as popular as, say, Puerto Rico? Or Checkers?
