Dec. 16th, 2000 10:23 pmOnly in silence the word,
only in dark the light,
only in dying life:
bright the hawk's flight
on the empty sky.
--Ursula K le Guin
The Earth quakes and the heavens rattle; the beasts of the field flock together while the nations of men flock apart; volcanoes usher up heat while elsewhere water becomes ice and melts; and then on other days it just rains.
Indeed do many things come to pass.
--Kerry Thornley
Why do I write? Why not? It passes time, it hones skills I've almost forgotten I had, and it enables me to keep my thoughts in some semblance of order. Plus in five years I can go back and see what a moron I used to be.
So: come Monday or Tuesday I'll be bumming around in NoVa instead of in Bleaksburg, which is something of an improvement, I suppose. I'll at least be able to make decent money over the break, and maybe some of the places I dropped off a resume to will get back to me. It's gotta beat making pasta for Sbarro.
Plus I'll get to see cool and interesting people again. Like Steph. Which bridge I'll burn when I get to it. But I'll also get to see people who I'm not relating to in such a complex fashion, like... well... like just about any Jeffersonite. A Good Thing.
