[livejournal.com profile] jadelennox, In defense of postmodernism: "Moral relativism is not the same thing as moral bankruptcy; seeing a point of view is not the same thing as buying into a point of view; seeing a range of possibility is not the same thing as being a completely objective observer."

"All art is subjective, and the standards against which the critics measure success or failure are always worked out a posteriori from an analysis of accepted and empirically successful works." --Martin Esslin, The Theatre of the Absurd

Dark Knight Returns: weak in places (I personally don't have a lot of use for long fight scenes), but mostly quite good. Dark, but not wholly dark. And as a bonus, a logical extrapolation of post-McCarthyism Superman.

Arkham Asylum: Sometimes I forget just how good Dave McKean is. If I'd read any of Grant Morrison's stuff besides his one Hellblazer story I'd probably be saying the same about him as well. This is a creepy, creepy book. I loved it.

I've also recently read Bill Willingham's Fables one-shot ("The Last Castle") and his additions to the Dreaming mythos (the Thessaliad, Merv Pumpkinhead, etc). All good stuff. The Dreaming is amusing; the Fables is, as expected, kind of sad. I'm regretting not getting into Fables when it started up.

I should go to bed, but I have a kitten in my lap.
