spring'll come back, i know it will. it'll do its best.

I made it through this godawful year (seriously, 2010 is rivalling 2005 for the year that the purpose of the forward march of time is to move us further away from) and it didn't, quite, kill me. From here on up, as Walt Kelly said, it's all downhill. And someday I'll be able to recognise it as something we can accept, mistakes made by the selves we had to be.

For now I'll settle for the light getting a tiny bit better and the night getting just a touch shorter.

Happy Sunreturn, all. Axial tilt may be the reason for the season but that's no reason not to celebrate, or at least reflect.

good things

1. Chris-in-exile's exile is ending! He'll be out in Fairfax, which is a bit of a haul but not as bad as it might be. Tonight I'm going down to help him move in.
   
   
2. Tomorrow is my annual lunch with Steph.
   
   
3. My family gave me the best gift of all this Xmas: their absence. Parents are going to Arkansas, sister etc to Connecticut, and I get to stay home and play games.
   
   
4. There is motion on Secret Project Paper, after certain Brilliant Ideas were thwarted by practical considerations.
   
   
5. The sky has been several stunning shades of bluegrey over the course of the day.
