A rather pleasant evening last night... a good dinner at Bogen's, and then we sat down and watched Blow, about a cocaine magnate in the 70s and 80s. Good stuff. It's cheerful for the most part, and gets serious in the last half hour or so. Johnny Depp is great, and Franka Potente does a great California beach chick for her half-hour or so. Some great moments with Depp and his parents, and the ending is wonderful. As for director Ted Demme, he's gone, and there aren't any more where he came from.

Chase Mgt is now saying that they were only kidding about taking $75 out of our security deposit to steam-clean the carpets. We might not even get to sue them for our security deposit, which would be fun but a hassle.

Move-out in seven days and counting.

The New McCarthyism

" 'Hi, we're from the Raleigh branch of the Secret Service,' two agents said.

"And they flip out their little ID cards, and I was like, 'What?'

"And they say, 'We're here because we have a report that you have un-American material in your apartment.' "
