Note to self: when procrastinating by taking a survey and posting it on LJ, don't post until much, much closer to the time the paper has to be done. Otherwise everyone else will do the survey and you'll be procrastinatorially obligated to read through their answers.

Paper is coming along pretty well. I've basically said everything that needs saying about O'Connor's "The River" and "Parker's Back." ("Parker's Back" is a bloody brilliant piece of writing. O'Connor could only ever write one story, really, but this is the epitome of it.) And I've basically got the two Bernard Malamud stories ("Angel Levine" and the rather eerie "Take Pity") under control. So it's just Nathanael West's Miss Lonelyhearts that I'm fearing. Plus I have to go back and replace all instances of "BLAH explain this" with an actual explanation of whatever this is.

Third cup of tea. The Incan monkey god should be visiting me soon. (I like monkeys.)

Miss Lonelyhearts is supposed t'be the Bomb (tho', admittedly, i haven't read it). anyway, i remember writing on "Parker's Back" as an undergrad. i recall "admiring" it but, looking back, i've got to say that story cuts deep. funny how it's often the sad stories that make you stand back and say, "damn, that's exactly how it is."

see, that was a non-crappy version of another survey i'd seen floating around that i hadn't bothered to fill out. seeing a more coherent, better-worded version, i opted to waste a lot of time. [also, sarah kendall and i go back and forth making each other do surveys, as, if one does a survey, the other must also do it.]

can't resist surveys i think of clever answers to while reading. also, i like being able to babble. and my answers are rarely exactly the same from survey to survey. ["ooh, THIS time saying my eyes are brown like mud will be ORIGINAL!"]
you know, all the people who ganked it from me left my edit to the "weakness?" one.. i think it's funny.
