Jan. 27th, 2003 11:05 pmWell, since the cat's more or less out of the bag, welcome aboard to
uilos. After, what, three months? of occasional nagging, Emily has finally gotten herself a LiveJournal. (Expect a comment to appear below this entry shortly consisting solely of the word "Bah.")
Watched The Two Towers again on Kelly's computer. Occasional mechanical hiccups and difficulties with voices synching up aside, it is in fact better the second time around. The stupid bits are still stupid (the exorcism of Theoden, the attack of the Wargs of Unusual Size, the transformation of Faramir into a completely different character with the same name and family). The expansion of Helm's Deep at the expense of the end of the book feels like a bad judgement call. Elrond and Arwen and Galadriel still have no business in the movie. But this time through I was able to stop focusing on the stupid things Peter Jackson has done to the story and pay attention to the good stuff. Ents. Gollum. Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen. Gorgeous scenery. (Osgiliath, despite being extraneous, is very pretty.) I await the extended DVD.
(But they're still the wrong two towers, dammit.)
And now I sleep, due to having slept six hours last night.

Date: 2003-01-28 11:16 pm (UTC)I'm going to go get four now, and be greatful. I will sleep when I'm dead. Or very sleepy.
(And, for the girl who hasn't read the book since she was six and needs to be humored, which two towers is it supposed to be?)

Date: 2003-01-29 05:35 am (UTC)And the two towers are Orthanc/Isengard and Minas Morgul, where the big spider lives. Only Jackson, in his infinite wisdom, pushed the bits involving Minas Morgul back to the third movie.
