John Frankenheimer, director of the greatest car chase movie ever (Ronin) died last month of a stroke. I found this out after listening to his commentary on the Ronin DVD and thinking "Wow, that's pretty cool stuff. Wonder what he's up to next?"

George Alec Effinger, SF author of _When Gravity Fails_ and other good books, died in March. There will be no more Budayeen books.

About a week ago I picked up a collection of Damon Knight's work and was impressed. Guess what?

Oooh, Ronin reminds me - it appears that Jean Reno is somewhat popular in Japan, certainly after his appearance in Wasabi (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0281364), which was released here recently.
