in retrospect it's just as well i'm out of syncad, because they're currently going through the Exegetics thing of trying desperately to have a product that looks functional so that the people who have to see it don't think they're complete incompetents. the bitter and vindictive part of me would love to see syncad fall flat on its face at the huge conference this week, but it's realistically not going to happen.
when you're *part* of the team that's working way overtime to get something half done, you don't really let yourself notice what you're doing, because if you did you'd have no choice but to quit. so you go along with it and promise yourself that you'll take a long look at things once it settles down.
i suppose all that is really just a prolog to this, which is about all that can be said on the subject.

in other news, Oddworld (the first one) is a very cool 2D platformer. there's something satisfying about the simple exchange "Hello." "Hello." "Follow me." "Okay." that doesn't come across at all in the typed text. i have no idea how they pitched this to a publisher. but it works.

software etc. will give me $35 in store credit for my 8-bit nintendo system. the one i bought from my baby sister a few years ago for $20. this is kind of creepy.

today will probably *not* be a Library Day. rather, today will be a Wash Yer Car day, for the first time since i've owned the thing. tomorrow will probably be a Library Day, with time taken in the library to plot the Trial of Dworkin for the closing session of this arc of the amber game tomorrow.

i've applied for this tech support job at VirPack, primarily to test my theory that i will in fact never get a job there. i'm going up against liam of origins (whose skill set i'm wholly unfamiliar with), jeff dean formerly of exegetics (who's a coder at least, and who did several of the on-site installs at exegetics), and brad who had this job before and quit to go to raleigh and have no job there. i figure if brad wants this job he's probably got it, but nathan thinks he may not want it due to the travel involved. we shall see.
