Resolutions
Jan. 1st, 2004 11:55 pmIt's not a long list, but then that means it's more likely I'll keep them all.
1. Finish 'You Wake Up.'
'You Wake Up' is an odd RPG scenario that's a bit like Jonathan Lethem's Amnesia Moon crossed with White Wolf's Mage. The idea popped into my head on the way to Shakespeare in summer 2002, and I ran it twice to moderate acclaim that fall. Then it sat dormant on my computer waiting patiently for me to do something with it.
I'll want to do some more work on the edges, then run it for a third group of players, and then see about writing it up as something potentially publishable. Maybe a short a la Munchausen, maybe a long Pyramid article. Maybe nothing more than a free download. Regardless, I want to do something with it; it's too cool an idea to let stagnate.
2. Write three stories that I think are good enough to let other people read.
This one shouldn't be too hard. The fiction class will require me to do at least two stories, of which one or (maybe) both will be 'good enough.' So, if I can just keep on writing into the summer / fall. . .
3. Improve my temper.
I'm better here than I was, say, three years ago, but I'm not done, not by a long shot.
4. Spend more time outdoors.
This year I rediscovered how much I enjoy woods, and creeks, and fields. . . . I don't want to forget that.
5. Take up Tai Chi for real.
There's really no place to do Tai Chi in the townhouse, so I was going through it outside 'til it got cold, and then my natural slackitude took over. I think if I can bring myself to actually do Tai Chi every morning, the discipline will be good for me. Maybe help me finish some of these other resolutions. :7
Update: And, since it came to me sometime last night:
6. Learn contact juggling.
. . . since my parents got me a very nice acrylic ball for Xmas and I've had James Ernest's definitive manual on the subject for several years now.
Update: twenty-four hours later, it occurs to me I've forgotten the most important one. I've made it, but just not bothered to list it here.
7. Take my relationships more seriously.
This is someone else's emotions I'm dealing with here, someone who I care about very much. This means taking the long view when necessary. This means bringing up small problems before they turn into big ones. This means listening above all else, listening and being willing to adjust my behavior as needed.
(This isn't just romantic entanglements; it spreads out into friendships as well.)
8. Make a dent in the Stack Of Books I Ought To Read
In practice, this means taking more out of said Stack than I put into it. Doable, with a bit of focus and a lot of restraint.
