jazzfish: Jazz Fish: beret, sunglasses, saxophone (Default)
Many thanks for the advice from last Monday's running post. I've been following the program that [livejournal.com profile] laughin and [livejournal.com profile] jedibfa recommended, and drinking a bit before I go out and then a glass or so when I get in. It seems to be working well. I bought a pair of cheap running shoes at JC Penney; if I stick with this I'll find a place to get fitted and buy a real pair. (I can buy shoes in a non-specialty store! And they fit! I even had a choice of three pairs in my size*!)

After three days I gave up on running in Brown Farm since A) dew on the grass in the mornings means my shoes were literally soaked through and squishy by the end of it, and B) in places the path slopes side-to-side, at upwards of thirty degrees. So, it's street-running for me. Pavement is harsher on the legs than dirt and the occasional threat of oncoming traffic is a bit disturbing, but it's going well other than that.

Dr. [livejournal.com profile] rivka is coming to Blacksburg in mid-July. I have nothing deep to say about this. I just think it's neat, in the same way that it was neat seeing that the World Ash Tree is in a field south of Blacksburg* or that elves are taking over the middle school where my mother taught math and P.E.*. (I also recall twitching when reading about someone driving in Fairfax on "River Turnpike," but fortunately or un I can't recall the book. Probably a spy novel.) Which isn't to say that [livejournal.com profile] rivka is fictional or anything. At least not as far as I know.
