What I Did On My Spring Vacation

Kelly. It's a lot more pleasant a drive with company, even if company consists solely of "don't lose the blue Beetle in front of you." (I was sort of fearing the drive, since the last time I made the trip by myself was Area:2, which was a bit hellish. But it was fine.) Stopped off at Burke Used Books on the way in; picked up a trade paperback of The Anubis Gates and a Gene Wolf short story collection entitled The Island of Doctor Death And Other Stories And Other Stories (yes), among others.
Went to church on Sunday morning. St Stephen's has been building a new sanctuary for the last year or two, and it's finished as of a couple weeks ago. Very bright and open and airy. I'm not entirely sure I like it; the old sanctuary felt a lot more homey and cozy. I imagine I'll get used to it, though. (Or not, since I'll probably only be going to church a couple times a year, instead of every week for four years.) They've also expanded/rearranged the offices and Sunday school classrooms, so it's a little like a maze if you were used to the old layout and not expecting it.
My father is buying a hammer dulcimer and teaching himself to play. It's pretty cool. It sort of reminds me of a much more complicated version of Frequency, actually; notes and timing, but not so much with dynamics (volume) or chording. (I imagine that chording gets introduced when you get good.)
Monday, went to Compleat Strategist and The Big-Ass Game Store (aka Game Parlor) with K. Between that and visiting the Game Keeper in Fair Oaks on Sunday, I snagged:
Also got another copy of Nobilis, so I can have one to look pretty and one to read. (yes, I'm nuts.)
Also also had Thai food for the first time (Tara Thai in Arlington). Tasty. Must have again at some point.
Then came home to find that the Spiel mailing list had exploded in the annual Tcon frenzy. So I ignored it and went to bed. Today I considered setting up the desk my parents gave me but decided that rearranging the office for two months wasn't really worth the effort. So the desk lives in the basement.

- Fist of Dragonstones, which looks sort of like a weird cross between Dragon's Gold and Citadels
- Mad Scientist, a two-player game that was five bucks (although reports from the web suggest that it's not worth five bucks)
- and Monkeys on the Moon, a game about monkeys! on the moon!

Date: 2003-03-04 02:35 pm (UTC)Thai: The coupld of times I've eaten Thai, it was chicken cooked in a peanut sauce. I forget what it's called. Tastes like chicken in peanut butter (only not as sweet). It's good, in the way that General Tso's (chicken in syrup) is good.
